| I am a franchisor and I was just wondering how the recession is affecting other franchisors. I am finding that, based on media reporting of armageddon scenarios for the economy, that there is a certain recalcitrance among prospective franchisees to move forward..! What thoughts do you have? You do not have to mention your franchise system, so it is anonymous. Peter

Peter, Good afternoon. I can say I do not believe Armageddon is at hand. I do feel we are in some of the most challenging times I have seen in my 30 years in business. I work with over half a dozen systems and coach another dozen or so with investments ranging from under 30K to over 250K. Some are home based and some bricks and mortar and from 15 industries. In the last year, total inquires are down about 25-35% pretty much across the board. Quality is actually up overall. Of the zors I work with directly, half have reached or exceeded their “realistic” goals and the other half were within about 10-20%. The other zors I monitor most are under their goals by 20-30% and one will most likely stop franchising and a couple may “de-franchise”. Interesting enough, I have a couple who are looking to possible acquire a franchise system if they can find one to fit their parameters. I wish you and your system all the best and if I can be of assistance or answer any questions, don’t hesitate to drop me an email or call. Have a great day.
