Liquid capital means exactly that - cash on hand or readily available to invest (such as stocks, bonds, home equity funded loan, etc.)
I'd venture to say you're looking at a food-type franchise at that investment level. Unless you're prepared to work 7 days a week and work 80-90 hours a week and can afford enough working capital reserve to reach a break even point that can be two, three or more years down the road (if you're lucky enough to get there) - forget about it. These are very risky, high stakes investments. There are good, non-food franchise investments in the $200,000 investment range. Check out the Franchise Foundations website for some good, objective advice at http://www.franchisefoundations.com
Good luck!

I know of two highly reputable organizations who show you how to use your 401K or IRA etc. to fund your franchise or business opportunity. These are tax, penalty and interest free. They charge a flat fee and administer the process for you.there are franchise lenders that will not secure your home or other assets unrelated to the business. These franchise options are very attractive. Although they may carry a higher rate of interest, they typically come out to be the same cost given the fees associated with an SBA guaranteed loan.

The IFA website in the drop down menu that mentions IRS provisions that allow the funding of a franchise via 401k.
