One thing that we do have a lot of control over is who we hire. Employees are the front-line face of my business. Therefore, I make sure that my team is satisfied with work and feels that they are valuable. One new tool that I found that has made employee communication much easier is called Input Ladder. It allows my team to send me feedback, concerns and ideas in a honest and direct manner, because I receive the comments anonymously. Since using it, my team has been more productive, happy and has represented my company in a better manner. I figured that I would spread the word about this cool product. The website is InputLadder.com. Good luck to everyone. Owning a business is tough but very rewarding.

How are you running your annual conference?

I am interested in how other Franchisors are structuring their annual conference. We charge a registration fee and participants are responsible for all their travel and hotel expenses. Our registration fee covers the meals and materials for each person for a 3 day conference without any margin to cover additional conference costs such as speakers, production, etc. We get approximately 60% to 65% participation from our network. I am interested to know how other Franchisors are structuring their annual conference fees and what kind of network participation you achieve. I would also be interested in innovative methods that you are using to help your franchisees get the most learning and networking out of the conference experience. But when you start a new franchise business, the franchisor has a training program already in place to familiarize you with the product and/or service, along with the franchise's way of doing business. A franchisor training program is one of the major benefits of franchising. It lets you acquire skills rapidly through the initial training program, and then gives on-site and ongoing training to reenforce those skills.

A training program needs to thoroughly prepare you to run your new franchise business. How well the program achieves this objective reflects the effectiveness of the training. It also shows the level of care and concern the franchisor has for its business and for its franchisees.

A good training and support program is the backbone of any successful franchise business. Before becoming a franchise owner, be sure the franchisor has a solid training and support program. This information should be outlined in the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD). In addition, be sure to discuss it not only with the franchisor, but also with existing franchise operators who received the training.

A good basic franchise training program should cover these topics:

* What you need to know about the product or service
* How to find the right real estate
* Dealing with leases, permits, and building design
* Hiring and managing employees
* How the franchise conducts marketing and merchandising
* How to do the business accounting
* Where to get supplies and inventory
* Getting the equipment you need for the business

Most programs begin with intensive basic training that is conducted at the franchisor's headquarters. Usually done in a classroom setting, this is where you learn all about the inner workings of the business. During this part of the training, you need to ask a lot of questions and take notes in order to get the most from the experience. Also, ask about documentation for the training, including an operations manual and any training manuals and/or materials the franchisor can provide.

In addition to the initial basic training, franchisors also offer on-site training. This means that representatives of the franchisor come to your business site and guide you through your grand opening and first week or so of business operations. This allows you to get hands-on training and become comfortable with the daily running of your new business. Ask as many questions and get as much advice as you can.

Ongoing training and support from the franchisor can include newsletters, meetings, networking, Internet sites, evaluations, toll-free phone lines, field op

-----------------
godgift
----------------------
Attorney-Attorney

Gift Card Policies

I am researching the gift card policies of Franchisors. I would like to find out how the sales / remittance policy works at other franchise groups. I have experience with a group with the following policy and want to find out if this is unusual or the norm;

Policy: When a gift card is sold at a retail loction the franchise owner pays the Franchisor the full amount. When a gift card is redeemed the Franchisor pays the full amount to the franchise owner where the gift card is redeemed.

Under this policy the Franchisor acts as the Fed Reserve and holds the "float".

Is this a common or uncommon policy?

Ranking and Incentive System

I am working on setting up a system to rank the franchisees in my organization and establish an incentive program for them. I would like to obtain information on how other franchisors have created a similar system. Among the goals we have for this system are to plan and better organize the support we provide to the franchisees and to motivate a higher level of performance in our franchise community.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

General Contractors help....

We are currently looking to add a few company locations throughout the USA within the next few months.
